Teen arrested after major drugs, firearms sting in South Island

Police have arrested a 12th person in a major operation in the South Island.

Last week, 11 people were arrested after a series of search warrants across the Southern District.

Police seized firearms, ammunition, methamphetamine, cannabis and synthetic drugs.

In a statement on Tuesday, Southland acting area commander Inspector Mike Bowman said police continued its efforts to disrupt and deter organised crime groups locally.

Three search warrants were executed in Invercargill and Gore on Tuesday morning, he said.

The warrants were executed with the assistance of the Armed Offenders Squad and Specialist Search Team members.

Insp Bowman said a 19-year-old man would appear in the Invercargill District Court on a warrant to arrest.

"These warrants have been part of our continued efforts to reduce crime and harm in our communities."

On Monday, police said they'd also arrested three further people following a major operation in Auckland targeting the Comanchero gang and its associates.

The Comancheros are an Australian biker gang.
