All of us here today can only imagine what life was like during the First and Second World War.
With Anzac Day approaching it's a time to reflect and remember the young men who fought and died for our country.
But what about those who have incredible tales of survival?
John Denvir fought, was captured, escaped and then joined a group of allies to fight against the Germans, all while his family thought he was dead.
His granddaughter Megan Peterson spoke to The AM Show.
