Weather: What's in store for Easter weekend

There's good news for Easter weekend adventurers - early forecasts show the weather looks dry and settled.

A large high shaped like an Easter egg is expected to pass over New Zealand from next Wednesday, and may bring three or four days of calm weather to most of the country.

"Much of next week then looks dry and potentially so too does Easter weekend over much of NZ," Weather Watch says.

"This high is likely to be slowly departing our shores around then which may mean a mild long weekend as northerlies develop."

But Easter Monday could be a different story with a higher likelihood of rain setting back in.

"There may be an increased chance of wetter weather towards Easter Monday," Weather Watch warns.

"We hope to bring you a more firmed up Easter forecast by this coming Sunday."
