Ambulance on fire at Otahuhu train station

Dramatic footage has been shared of an ambulance on fire in Auckland.

The ambulance was spotted in flames by witness Annastasia Tarako at Otahuhu train station, who was on her way to university by train.

"I felt pretty shocked, I've never seen something like this except from a movie. But yeah made me think deeply of other attacks around the world, who usually see this as a norm," said Tarako.

Video of the scene shows emergency services on the scene as a blaze consumes the vehicle.

Mark Deoki, the St Johns acting district operations support manager for Auckland told Newshub the ambulance had a patient and a student in it when it caught alight.

He praised the driver for being composed while evacuating the pair.

"The ambulance officer which was driving the ambulance at the time actually did a great job of evacuating the patient and a student," he said.

A cause has not yet been identified, but an investigation is underway.

There will be no impact on ambulance services across the city.

Auckland Transport tweeted that the station was being evacuated.

"All bus services are currently diverted. Train services are not impacted."
