A lockdown at a Housing New Zealand and Public Trust building in Auckland has been lifted after a threat was allegedly made towards a worker.

On Tuesday morning, Public Trust's communication consultant Ian Letham confirmed to Newshub that its Greenlane building had been placed into lockdown.

Letham said a threat had been made towards a member of staff, but wouldn't elaborate further.

The lockdown had been a "precautionary" and "voluntary" measure without the assistance of police, but was lifted more than an hour later.

Security staff remain on-site.

The building is also shared by Housing New Zealand. A spokesperson earlier confirmed its staff had also gone into lockdown, following normal procedures and staying indoors.

Police said they had no information available about the lockdown.
