Auckland primary school student dies after asthma attack during netball game

A 12-year-old girl has died after having an asthma attack during a netball game.

Aishani Dutt suffered a severe asthma attack on 2 May, which caused her to go into cardiac arrest.

"Our beautiful baby girl Aishani had a severe asthma attack on Thursday while doing what she loves most - playing netball with her friends," her mother Moreen Dutt posted to the Hobsonville School Facebook page.

"Unfortunately she had a cardiac arrest and is currently fighting for her life. Things are looking bleak but we're holding on to every glimmer of hope we can."

Aishani died shortly afterwards.

Hobsonville Primary School spoke on behalf of Aishani's parents, saying they had asked for students to be involved in planning the funeral which took place on 9 May.

A Givealittle page has been established in her memory to raise money for the charities that treated and cared for Aishani and her family.

So far it has raised $2,144.
