Man who suffered gunshot wound dies after Otara shooting incident

One person has died from a gunshot wound following a shooting in Otara. 

Police were called to the scene of a serious incident on Piako Street in Auckland about 2:53 on Friday afternoon. 

The man died at the scene, police have confirmed. 

Acting Detective Inspector Shaun Vickers, Counties Manukau CIB, said investigators are working to identify anyone responsible.

"This is a serious and tragic incident and we are doing everything we can to locate anyone involved." 

An Auckland school and kindergarten were forced into lockdown as a safety precaution. 

At 2:55pm police advised Flat Bush Primary to go into lockdown before officers the school was advised it could release students at 3:15pm.

Flat Bush Kindergarten was temporarily put into lockdown.

Police are still in attendance at the address where a cordon is in place.
