A pair of Chorus technicians have been caught on video dumping rubbish on the side of the road in the central North Island.

Grainy footage shows an item being thrown from a Chorus branded van into bushes on the side of the road south of Morere on SH2.

Richard Ewels confronted the two people standing next to the van shortly after he spotted them throwing items.

Video Newshub has seen but were not allowed to publish shows he filmed the interaction.

Ewels asked the pair if they were dumping rubbish, but the pair denied dumping anything and said they were smoking.

"Funny place to smoke a cigarette," Ewels can be heard saying behind the camera.

The pair confirmed they work for Chorus during the video.

The video shows Ewels going into the bushes on the side of the road and finding four bags of rubbish, as well as cardboard boxes.

A Chorus spokesperson told Newshub the incident had been brought to the company's attention on Thursday.

"I can confirm that we've located the technicians in the video and a crew has been sent to clean up the area.

"This sort of behaviour is simply unacceptable and it is being dealt with through the appropriate processes."

Newshub contacted Ewels for comment. He confirmed he shot the video but was unable to comment further prior to publication.
