Christchurch terror attack: Victim Support Givealittle page closes on Thursday

Victim Support will close its Givealittle page for donations to those affected by the Christchurch terror attack on Thursday.

In a statement on Wednesday, Victim Support said the page, which closes at 11:50pm, has raised almost $10.75 million since the Christchurch mosque attacks on March 15.

Fifty-one people were killed in the attacks.

"Funds raised have been invaluable in helping those affected to rebuild their lives," Victim Support chief executive Kevin Tso said.

Victim Support had previously faced criticism from traumatised victims who said they had been left struggling, but announced earlier this month it would pay $15,000 to the next-of-kin of those killed in the attack, as well as $12,000 to those who were physically injured in the attacks, and those who were present at either mosques - Al Noor or Linwood - at the time of the shootings.

Tso said the compassion and empathy shown has been "overwhelming".

The Australian teenager known as "Egg Boy", Will Connolly, donated nearly $100,000 to the victims of the Christchurch mosque attacks earlier this week.

Connolly came to fame after egging controversial Australian Senator Fraser Anning. The egging came after Anning made comments blaming Muslims on the attacks.

He said there had been two GoFundMe pages to help pay for his legal fees

"I decided to donate all [money] to help provide some relief to the victims of the massacre. It wasn't mine to keep," he wrote on Instagram.
