Police have arrested a man after an alleged road rage incident on Albany Highway.

The 22-year-old man is charged with failing to stop to ascertain injury, and will appear in North Shore District Court on Friday.

Police say they cannot rule out the possibility that further charges will be laid.

The 49-year-old victim remains in Auckland Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The incident occurred on Saturday night. Police say two men pulled over to the side of the Albany Highway around 9.15pm.

It's alleged that after a dispute the victim was clinging to the alleged offenders bonnet.

"It appears the victim has been carried on the bonnet of the offending vehicle and then run over by his car," said Detective Senior Sergeant Kim Libby.

Police inquiries are continuing, and anyone who witnessed the event is asked to contact police on (09) 398 0697.
