Man charged with murder, another with a firearms offence after Otara shooting

A 21-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of Faaifo 'Joe' Siaosi, who died from a gunshot wound after a shooting.

Police were called to the shooting on Piako St in Otara on Friday night where the 23-year-old victim was unable to be revived.

Acting Det Insp Shaun Vickers, of Counties Manukau, said a 21-year-old man had been charged with murder, while another man, also 21, had been charged with a firearms offence.

Acting Det Insp Vickers said inquiries were still ongoing and did not rule out further charges.

"I would like to reassure the community that police have put significant investigative resources into our inquiries over this tragic incident.

"These arrests should serve as a reminder that police will thoroughly investigate and hold people to account."

The man charged with murder is due in the Manukau District Court on Thursday.

Siaosi's death comes after a number of other south Auckland shootings this year, including one near Mangere Bridge in February and another at Clover Park in April.
