Man who died after falling from vehicle on Auckland's Southern Motorway named

Police have released the name of the man who died after falling from a vehicle on the Southern Motorway earlier this month.

On May 9, a police Eagle helicopter was filmed landing between the Ellerslie Panmure Highway on-ramp and the Greenlane East off-ramp after a man fell from a moving vehicle.

He received medical attention at the scene, but died.

On Thursday, police named him as 22-year-old Sauitua Apolinalio.

Witness Rosina Graham told Newshub she saw Apolinalio receiving medical attention in the middle of the road.

"A man was being given CPR in the middle lane of the northbound traffic, and the traffic had been jammed right up to the Mt Wellington on-ramp," Graham said.

All four northbound lanes were closed after the incident.

It has been reported that Apolinalio was intellectually disabled.
