More strikes for secondary school teachers in June

Secondary school teachers will strike again in June in two waves of industrial action.

Throughout the month of June, beginning on June 4, members of the Post-Primary Teacher's Association (PPTA) will opt not to teach a chosen year group on a particular day.

Alongside this action, they will participate in rolling strikes throughout the country, choosing different days for different areas of New Zealand.

PPTA president Jack Boyle told Stuff he hoped the support shown by parents, teachers and students during Wednesday's strikes would convince the Government to find a solution.

However, Education minister Chris Hipkins has said there will be no more money.

"There's not going to be any more money so they can choose to accept the offer, they can ask for the offer to be reconfigured. But striking, in the hope that more money will eventuate, is going to lead to disappointment," he said during question time.

Year 9 will be hit first on Tuesday 4 June.

The following Tuesday on June 11, year 10 students will not be taught. On June 25, it'll be year 11, then year 12 on July 2.

The rolling regional strikes will begin on June 17 and last until June 21.
