Police are appealing for witnesses after an aggravated robbery in Invercargill.

On Monday night at roughly 6:20pm, two men entered a store on the corner of Heywood St and Tanner St in Grasmere, Invercargill.

Both men were carrying weapons, which police believe were large sticks.

While one store attendant was assaulted during the robbery, he didn't require medical attention.

The offenders then left the store with cigarettes before heading east on Heywood St in a vehicle understood by police to be a silver 1997 Subaru Forrester station wagon.

Both of the men had their faces covered.

One was of a slight build, while the other was of a solid build. One of the offenders was wearing a black and red hoodie during the robbery.

Police say a similar vehicle to the one believed to have been used by the offenders was reported driving at excessive speeds after the incident on State Highway 6 at Lorneville heading north.

They are appealing for any information about the robbery or for anyone who may have seen the vehicle to come forward.

People can ring the police on 03 217 1326 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
