Te Atatu police pursuit ends in crash, teens taken to hospital

A police pursuit ended in a crash in west Auckland on Monday night, resulting in the hospitalisation of two teenagers.

The pursuit began at around 11:45pm on Monday night when police signalled for a car to stop due to excessive speed.

It did not stop and was pursued by police along Te Atatu Rd before it crashed into a motorway off-ramp approximately three minutes in.

The car's 15-year-old driver took off on foot down a motorway on-ramp before they were apprehended by police.

Two passengers, aged 14- and 13-years-old stayed inside the car. One was trapped and had to be removed by Fire and Emergency NZ before being taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

The other passenger was taken for observation.

The vehicle's driver is in custody and expected to appear in Youth Court on Tuesday.

The serious crash unit attended the scene and the IPCA will be notified.
