A woman has been arrested for the theft of dozens of cemetery plaques in Christchurch.

Police were alerted to the theft of the plaques from Springston Cemetery on May 6, and a week later recovered 17 that had been sold to a Christchurch-based scrap dealer.

A 41-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday after allegedly selling an additional 32 plaques to another second scrap deal.
