Woman impersonated doctor to see Christchurch terror attack victims - report

A woman allegedly pretended to be a doctor on March 15 so she could get to victims of the Christchurch terror attack.

A police spokeswoman told Newshub they have been made aware of the matter and are working with the Canterbury District Health Board.

The DHB has now put extra security precautions in place, chief medical officer Sue Nightingale told Newshub.

"Canterbury DHB was made aware of the allegations against the individual last week.

"The individual is alleged to have overstepped their role as a volunteer for the Muslim Association of Canterbury when visiting patients involved in the mosque attacks.

"Our prime concern is to protect the health and wellbeing of our patients."

Nightingale said its investigations are ongoing.

"We are unable to provide further comment at this time," she told Newshub.

Muslim Association of Canterbury president Shgaf Khan told Star.kiwi he met the woman the day of the terror attack.

"She introduced herself and said she was a Muslim," he said "Basically she was working from day one as a volunteer trying to help out wherever she could.

"There were a lot of people helping us in this time of panic and chaos and we were just co-ordinating with them."

Khan told the Star the woman was no longer providing service for the association.
