The bomb squad was called to the NZ Post mail centre near Auckland Airport after a "suspicious package" was found on Sunday.

"The mail centre near the airport was evacuated and cordons put in place at Geoffrey Robery/Laurence Stevens Drives," a police spokesperson told Newshub.

"The NZDF Explosive Ordnance Disposal team is on site."

It turned out to be a mislabelled package.
