A disabled woman who was brutally beaten by a New Zealand man in Australia is outraged he will spend just four months behind bars.

Emma Martin says she sustained multiple injuries in the attack, and is now constantly living in fear, the Gold Coast Bulletin reports.

Rewi Michael Borrell, 44, entered a guilty plea in the Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday for the assault which occurred in November.

Video footage of the incident reportedly shows Borrell punching Martin in the face before yelling, "you are not allowed to smoke down here".

The attack carried on until Martin had blacked out, police prosecutor Sgt Bob Soper said.

"It can only be described as disgraceful, cowardly, shocking and horrible to see," Magistrate Pam Dowse said.

Borrell was sentenced to four months' in prison, but his victim wants him deported when he has served his sentence.

It was Borrell's fourth conviction, the Bulletin reports. In New Zealand, he was convicted for assault twice, and in relation to an incident of road rage.

"I don't think four months is enough," Martin told the Bulletin outside the court.

Borrell was homeless by the age of 13 having grown up in a violent household, barrister Marty Longhurst reportedly told the court.

Martin said there were no excuses; "Everyone has had a hard upbringing,'' she told the Bulletin.
