A person has died after being hit by a car in Waihi.
Emergency services were called to George St around 1am on Saturday.
Police say the road is closed so a scene examination can take place.
And a crash has blocked lanes of State Highway 2 between Tauranga and Katikati.
The NZ Transport Agency says the eastbound lane, between Wairoa Pa Rd and Te Paeroa Rd, is out of action.
Emergency services are at the scene, and motorists are being reminded to follow their instructions.
