The mother of a teenage girl who was allegedly punched in the face by a man at an Auckland service station says the matter wasn't taken seriously enough.

When exiting the BP service station on Swanson Rd, Kylie Tipene said she accidentally blocked a van and immediately tried to apologise to the driver out the window, NZME reports.

She said she was then abused by the driver, and went back to the service station to confront him. Her daughter also got out of the car.

"She stood up for herself and her mum and she answered back saying 'don't speak to my mum like that'," Tipne told NZME.

"Then he walked over and punched her straight in the face."

The alleged offender will not be charged despite being spoken to by police, NZME reports.

Newshub approached police for comment.

"In general police are unable to respond to queries which seek to establish whether specific individuals are, or have been, under police investigation," a spokesman said.
