A 49-year-old man and his dog are trapped in a cave near Marsden on the West Coast.
Police say emergency services were called to the scene near Limestone Track at 3:09pm.
Fire and Emergency spokeperson Mau Barbara told Newshub the dog entered the cave and the man went after it. Both are now stuck eight metres down the cave.
A specialist rescue team has arrived and secured safety lines into the cave.
FENZ and St John were also called.
