A boy reported missing on Tuesday in Taranaki has been found safe.

Police said on Tuesday that the boy, called Hohepa by police, had been last seen about 4:30pm at a property on Rosendale Ave, New Plymouth.

They appealed for sightings and said his parents and caregivers were concerned for his safety. He has the mental age of someone aged between four and five-years-old.

But police later confirmed the eight-year-old boy had been found safe in Spotswood and returned to his caregivers.
