A man has been tasered after threatening firefighters at the scene of a house fire.
Police said officers were called to assist at a fire on Carlie St, Papatoetoe before 11:30am.
The man had been acting threateningly towards Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) staff, and also threatened police officers once they arrived.
He was tasered and taken into custody.
Cordons remain in place.
A Newshub cameraman saw staff at the scene wearing hazardous material suits.
Papatoetoe High School students were forced out of classrooms and into the school's gym due to avoid smoke from the fire, which was drifting onto school grounds.
