A person of interest is still sought by police after two Christchurch schools were locked down on Friday afternoon.

A police spokeswoman said they located a person of interest earlier this afternoon, but were still working to locate another.

Police said the second person is no longer believed to be in the area and is not a threat to the public.

Breens Intermediate and Isleworth School were in lockdown but those have since been lifted, police said.

A statement on the Isleworth School website said all students were safe, while Breens Intermediate said everyone was "safe and accounted for".

Newshub reporter Erin Speedy was outside Isleworth School when the lockdown lifted. She said parents rushed into grab their children after getting the all-clear.
