Police are investigating three incidents that took place on Monday, 3 June in Auckland's Epsom and Sandringham areas, believed to be linked by a silver vehicle and a hockey stick.

The first incident took place shortly after midnight on June 3. A man on Epsom's King George Avenue was approached by four men, assaulted with a hockey stick and robbed of his mobile phone.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Franich said the offenders fled the scene in a silver Subaru Legacy station wagon.

Later on June 3 a man was approached by three unknown males at around 1:20pm on Haverstock Road in Sandringham. He was assaulted by two of the men, one of whom was armed with a hockey stick.

A man also reported around a similar time that a group of males surrounded him on Sandringham's Locarno Avenue before punching him multiple times. They fled in a silver vehicle.

"Police believe these incidents are connected," says Franich.

"After speaking with all three victims, police are satisfied that race was not the motivation behind these incidents.

"We believe the victims were targeted at random and due to the fact that they were isolated and on their own.

Senior Sergeant Franich urges anyone who witnessed any of these incidents or saw a silver Subaru station wagon in the Sandringham or Epsom areas on June 3 to contact police.
