One person dead after blaze at guest house in Otahuhu

One person has died in a blaze in south Auckland.

The fire broke out at the Wemberly Guest House and ten appliances attended the scene just before 6pm on Friday.

Fire and Emergency confirmed to Newshub that one person has died and the fire has since been extinguished.

Police were also called to the fire at 5:50pm and are assisting with cordons.

A local businesswoman said she heard a loud bang and an alarm go off before the building was cleared. She believes the fire was in a one-bedroom apartment on the second floor.

Her shop was closed while emergency services are at the scene.
