A person has died after a water incident north of Whangarei.
Police were called to Sandy Bay near Matapōuri at 4:30pm on Friday where St John say there was a water incident.
Three ambulances attended the scene and one patient was treated. No transport was required.
Police have since confirmed that one person died. Their death has been referred to the Coroner.
