Court date for Blenheim woman facing child sex allegations

A woman will appear in Blenheim District Court on Monday over sexual allegations at Marlborough Boys' College.

The 37-year-old is charged with sexual connection with a young person under 16 and intentionally exposing a young person to indecent material.

A letter was sent to parents and caregivers in May informing them of an investigation, and the Government also confirmed it was aware of the situation.

A father of one student in June alleged the teacher was not immediately placed on leave, as parents were told in correspondence from principal Wayne Hegarty. He also claimed the high school was trying to deal with the matter internally "well before" the teacher was placed on leave.

A Marlborough Boys' College representative refused to answer questions about the matter, telling Newshub the allegations were subject to a police investigation.

"It is important that we do not inadvertently pre-empt or prejudice any external process."
