Cows spotted on the loose in Waikato resident's front yard

A Waikato woman woke up to a confusing scene on Tuesday when she spotted two black cows wandering around her neighbourhood in Ngaruawahia.

Kat Netana decided to video the rogue animals as she was concerned for their safety.

"My first thought was 'wow, what if they cause an accident?'" Netana told Newshub.

The cattle can be seen grazing in her neighbour's front yard, seemingly unbothered by their new, residential location.

"Then I thought - where the heck did they even come from?"

Netana shared the footage to her local community Facebook page, hoping the post would alert the cattle's owners.

"I thought they may have escaped from their paddock due to the storm we had during the night, so that's why I posted on the notice board."

Netana has lived in the area for two years, and has never seen cows wandering around before.

"We usually see stray dogs, not cows," she laughed.

Netana was unable to track down the owners of the cows, and no one owned up to losing cattle on the public Facebook post.

Local police did not receive any reports of lost cows in the area, suggesting they were retrieved safely.
