Father and daughters missing in Wellington regional park found

A father and two teenage daughters who went missing in a Wellington regional park have been found.

The 50-year-old man and his 11 and 14-year-old daughters left for hike around the steeply sloped Days Bay in Lower Hutt on Tuesday.

A police spokesperson told Newshub they located the trampers and they are making their way out of the bush.

Park ranger Jimmy Young confirmed the news saying he received a text just saying 'they have been found.'

Police later confirmed in a statement the group was found at the Kowhai Track at the southern end of the East Harbour Regional Park.

A large search was underway with sniffer dogs scouring the East Harbour Regional Park last night along with eight search and rescue teams.

More dogs and Land Search and Rescue volunteers headed out onto the track on Wednesday.

Tracks in the area the family went missing from take at most two hours and 30 minutes to complete and go through dense bush.

More to come.
