A man has been transported to hospital in a critical condition after being rescued from the water off a Northland bay.
Police received reports at 5:55am on Friday that the man had been in the water "adjacent to Ruato Rd, Whangaroa, Far North district" for six hours before being rescued.
An ambulance attended the scene and transported the man to Northland Base Hospital in a critical condition.
Police couldn't provide further information on who rescued the man.
