Oamaru couple held at gunpoint in early-morning break-in

An Oamaru couple have moderate injuries after being woken from their sleep and held at gunpoint.

Police say two men disguised with scarves entered a Holmes Hill property around 5am on Saturday and demanded money and drugs.

They allegedly assaulted the victims, and then left.

The victims were treated at Oamaru Hospital. 

It's not yet clear whether anything was taken. police are appealing for information.

"If anyone saw anything unusual in the area on Saturday morning, including any vehicles or people, please contact Oamaru CIB on 105," they said in a statement.

"Alternatively, information can be passed to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

105 is the new police non-emergency number.
