Over 200 Mongrel Mob members assembled in Rotorua on Monday morning for the tangi of patched member, Rex Maney.

Rex Te Meihana Maney died last Wednesday and was buried at Pikirangi Marae in Rotokawa. He was well-known in the Rotorua community and to law enforcement.

Acting Rotorua area commander Inspector Phil Taikato told NZME the safety of the public had been police's priority during the event, but there were no problems.

"[Mongrel Mob members] have been nothing but exemplary on the marae, they've respected tikanga," he said.

A tribute by Maney's whānau was published in the Rotorua Daily Post, remembering him as a "dearly loved father, brother, Koro, and brother of Mongrelism".

Inspt Taikato told NZME police were not expecting the large number of attendees to stay in Rotorua.
