The parents of a toddler involved in a serious crash in Waiouru in June have been told they will have to switch off her life support.

One person died in the three-car accident while six others were injured. It happened on State Highway 1 in the Ruapehu District's Waiouru Military Area on June 13.

Initial reports confirmed a child had been injured. A Facebook fundraiser page says Amirah, aged 2, was involved in the accident.

The fundraiser page says the family was returning home to Wellington from a holiday in Auckland.

"My poor little girl has taken the impact and is now in Starship Hospital currently in intensive care fighting for her life she is paralysed from the chest down," mum Dae Zahara wrote.

"She is finding it hard to breathe on her own as the nurses and doctors are that they have been damaged and will be and we will never get that back."

An update posted on Tuesday says Amirah would eventually pass away in a "painful way" being on a ventilator.

"They [doctors] have said that they can help support her so much but because she cannot breathe on her own."

Family are now planning her funeral, the post says, adding they wish to give her a "beautiful sendoff".

As of Wednesday morning, the Facebook fundraiser had received more than $7300 in donations from nearly 250 people.

Crash witness Alex Campbell told NZME at the time he was driving north behind a car that tried to overtake a truck on a blind corner.

The serious crash unit was advised of the incident.
