Person seriously injured after 'chemical incident' in Christchurch

One person has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a chemical incident in Christchurch.

The incident, which is understood to be demolition-related, happened about 2.30pm in the suburb of Woolston.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman told Newshub one person was believed to have suffered burns.

St John attended the incident and took one person to Christchurch Hospital with serious injuries, a media alert said.

WorkSafe has been contacted for comment.
