Police investigating six-month-old baby's 'non-accidental' burns

An investigation is underway after a six-month-old baby was taken to Hutt Hospital with "non-accidental" burn injuries.

Police say the infant was admitted to Nelson Hospital with burn injuries on Friday. She was then transferred to the Hutt Hospital burns unit, in Wellington, for ongoing treatment.

"Police are treating the injuries as non-accidental," Acting Detective Sergeant Robyn Green said in a statement.

"Members of the public with information about the incident are urged to contact the Nelson Child Protection Team on 03 546 3840."
