Seriously injured West Coast baby dies, man charged with murder

A 30-year-old man has been charged with murder after a seriously injured West Coast baby died.

The 10-month-old infant was airlifted from Hokitika to Christchurch Hospital on Tuesday in a critical condition, however, he has since died from his injuries.

The accused was originally charged with one count of wounding with intent, and now faces a charge of murder.

He is due to appear in Christchurch District Court on Wednesday afternoon.

Police are providing support to the baby's family, who are requesting privacy.
