Supreme Court will hear child sex offender Peter Ellis try and clear his name

Convicted child sex offender Peter Ellis has been granted leave to take his battle to clear his name to the Supreme Court.

Ellis was convicted of abusing seven children at the Christchurch Civic Childcare Centre in 1993. He served seven years of a 10-year sentence but has always maintained he was innocent.

The now 61-year-old is suffering from bladder cancer and has been given just months to live. He wants to clear his name before he dies.

On Wednesday evening, the Supreme Court announced it would hear Ellis's case.

The ground of appeal is whether there was a miscarriage of justice in the abuse case, reports NZME.

Ellis has already appealed twice. The first appeal revoked three convictions, but his second appeal was dismissed in 1999.

Ellis was released in 2000.
