Wanted man shot after allegedly threatening officers with knife in Marlborough

A man wanted by police has been shot in Marlborough.

The man failed to stop on State Highway 1 on Sunday evening, forcing officers to deploy spikes. The vehicle came to a stop at an intersection of Hardings Road on SH1, says Acting Tasman District Commander Inspector Virginia Welch.

The man was shot in the arm after allegedly presenting a knife.

First aid was immediately issued by police. The alleged offender is currently at Wairau hospital under police guard.

Officers involved in the incident are receiving support, says Inspector Welch.

Cordons are in place and the public is asked to avoid the area. 

Further updates are expected to be given on Monday.
