Weather: Half of school holidays to be wet, windy, miserable

NIWA has issued its school holiday weather outlook - and it's not all good news for parts of the country.

A high brings mainly settled weather from Sunday until the middle of next week. However after this the weather will turn wet again, especially in the west.

"Week one of school holidays is better than week two, weather-wise!" NIWA says.

"After drier than normal conditions over the next little while, things will turn wetter as we head into mid-July, especially in western areas."

"Conditions may get windier mid-month which can bring in more showers but also see those showers zipping through faster," WeatherWatch says.

"It seems Canterbury will be the driest of all regions in the week or two ahead, but also eastern Northland and parts of Auckland look drier than usual."
