1 News accidentally broadcasts their Skype account password

Many modern relationships involve a shared Netflix account, bank account and maybe even shared phone passwords.

Maybe 1 News wanted to prove the strength of its relationship with its dedicated viewers - by broadcasting its Skype login credentials for the whole world to see.

On Tuesday's 6pm news bulletin, 1 News accidentally exposed their Skype password during a story on New Zealand's 2018 census.

The credentials were only on-screen for a fleeting moment, but didn't slip past eagle-eyed viewers.

A screenshot of the Skype details, stuck to a newsroom computer, made it on to Reddit.

"One News just broadcast their Skype account password on TV?" the Reddit user captioned the image.

One person was brave enough to do what everyone else was thinking, and tested the password.

"I tried it out of curiosity," wrote mtbkr24.

"Despite having '2011' in it, the password is still correct. At least they have two-factor authentication on so I couldn't get in. Maybe they'll take the hint and change the password now."

"They'll probably just change it to having '2019' in it," another commented.

One Reddit user clearly had the right idea.

"That's why we watch Newshub," they wrote.
