Boy, 14, fails to appear in Youth Court for alleged arson of historic Christchurch building

A warrant to arrest has been issued for a 14-year-old boy charged with the arson of Antonio Hall in Christchurch.

The youth failed to appear in the Christchurch Youth Court on Thursday.

The gothic mansion on Riccarton Rd caught fire last month. More than 50 firefighters fought the blaze in the derelict building.

Police arrested and charged the youth the day after the fire broke out on July 12.

Investigators arrived at the fire-ravaged building on July 13, and police later announced they were investigating "what is believed to be a deliberately lit fire".

No-one else was sought in relation to the blaze.

The fire caused the evacuation of 50 nearby properties.

Sixteen fire engines were involved in tackling the blaze and significant parts of the building were saved.
