Police have launched a homicide investigation following the death of a woman on the Kapiti Coast on Saturday night.
Emergency services were notified of a serious assault at an address on Marine Parade at Paraparaumu Beach around 8pm. Police found the woman's body on arrival.
A 40-year-old man was quickly taken into custody at nearby Raumati South, police said. He has not yet been formally charged, but police expect to do so soon.
Police say he knew the deceased woman.
Cordons were in place overnight at the corner of Marine Parade and Howell Street. Police remain at the scene, conducting an examination.
