Fatal car vs pedestrian accident in Opotiki

A person has died after a car hit a pedestrian in Bay of Plenty overnight.

Emergency services were called to Omarumutu Rd in Opotiki, off State Highway 35, just before 2:30am.

The road will be closed for some time as the serious crash unit investigates.

Meanwhile, another crew were called to Te Ohaki Rd in Huntly just after midnight.

Further south, a car rolled off State Highway 57 near Shannon in Manawatu. A person was trapped and was later taken to hospital with serious injuries.

And another car drove into a bank leaving three people seriously injured at Newlands in Wellington.

So far 213 people have been killed on the roads in 2019, behind 2017 and 2018 at the same stage but well ahead of 2015 and 2016.
