Fourth person arrested after jewellery store robbery at St Lukes

A fourth person has been arrested for an aggravated robbery that took place St Lukes Mall on Sunday.

Police say two people, armed with bats and a hammer, stole jewellery before driving from the scene in a stolen vehicle. They abandoned the vehicle near the Baldwin Ave train station before catching the train to Kingsland.

They boarded a western-bound train to Ranui, where the two alleged offenders and a third teenager were tracked and apprehended in a street close by.

A fourth person managed to evade police, but he was arrestted on Wednesday. 

Police say the 17-year-old will face numerous charges including aggravated robbery.

He will appear in the Auckland Youth Court on Wednesday.

No one was injured in the robbery, but the sound of breaking glass prompted panic among shoppers and rumours of gunshots. 

The stores targeted were Michael Hill and Silvermoon Luxe.
