Man accused of Silverstream steamroller rampage loses name suppression

The man accused of rampaging through an Upper Hutt suburb with a steamroller has been named.

Patrick Roil's interim name suppression was lifted on Thursday.

The 47-year-old is charged with reckless disregard and drink-driving.

Roil is accused of driving a steamroller into vehicles and people at a boy racer gathering in Silverstream in July.

Witnesses to the chaos told Newshub it was "like a terror attack".

"He was hitting cars and would hit into people," said one man who was at the gathering.

Another man suffered a broken leg in the rampage.

Dylan Wilson was hit by a fleeing car, shattering his leg in four places.

Doctors told him he was lucky not to lose his limb.

"It was traumatising, seeing him in agony, just crying and in pain and wanting it to stop but it can't," witness Bryan Seddon told Newshub.

Roil will appear in court on September 12.
