Southland police operation: Wanted man arrested after two-day manhunt

A fleeing suspect has been arrested after a two-day manhunt.

The man was sought after two police glock pistols were stolen and two police vehicles were rammed on Wednesday night during a pursuit.

A police statement confirmed the 24-year-old man wanted in relation to the serious incident had been located at a property in Gore, and taken into custody.

Southern District Commander Superintendent Paul Basham said one of the stolen pistols had been recovered, but the second was still outstanding.

"A quantity of ammunition was also found at the property, and the firearm will be subject to forensic examination as part of the ongoing investiagtion."

Supt Basham said officers were "actively" working to locate the second firearm.

"I can assure the community that our absolute focus remains on its safe recovery."

Ten properties were searched following the dramatic incident. Supt Basham said the National Specialist Search Team had helped with the manhunt.
