Two lanes on the Auckland Harbour Bridge have been closed due to a police issue.

The New Zealand Transport Agency said in a tweet that drivers headed north on State Highway 1 should expect delays.

"Due to a police issue the two left lanes (lanes 1 and 2 of 4) are closed. Please delay your journey or merge right to use lanes 3 and 4. Expect delays through St Marys Bay," it said.

A police spokesperson told Newshub emergency services were called to the bridge at 11:20am after concerns were raised about a person's welfare.

"A person has been taken to Auckland Hospital in a moderate condition. Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to this incident. Two lanes are currently blocked but are expected to be reopened soon.".

All lanes are now open.
