One person has been arrested following a police chase in Auckland.

Shortly before 2pm, police were called to reports of a stolen car driving towards Auckland's CBD on Tamaki Drive.

The vehicle didn't stop for police on Quay Street, and officers gave chase. However, the pursuit was dropped as the driving became dangerous.

Another attempt to chase the stolen car was made but abandoned again, and a police helicopter was dispatched to follow from above.

The driver of the stolen car exited the motorway at Oteha Valley Road, and continued to drive towards Browns Bay as police followed at a distanced.

The driver made an attempt to ram the police vehicles that remained following.

At 2.20pm, the driver successfully rammed a police vehicle on Knights Close in Rothesay Bay.

The officer in the vehicle was injured and was treated by paramedics, however, the injuries are thought to be minor.

The driver of the stolen car has been arrested and is likely to be charged, police say.
